Looking for standalone or replacement electric heaters?Explore our collection of genuine Harvia and Holl's Vulkano wall-mounted sauna rock heaters with built-in controls.
Indoor infrared cabins (1 to 4 person) connect directly into standard 13A UK 3-pin household sockets. Outdoor traditional saunas with 4.5kW to 8kW heaters require a dedicated cable run from your consumer unit to an external IP65-rated 32A rotary isolator switch, installed and certified by a Part P registered UK electrician.
02
Heater Operation & Volcanic Stone Care
Volcanic peridotite sauna stones store heat and vaporise water into smooth löyly steam. Loosely stack stones around the heating elements to maintain generous airflow; never wedge rocks tightly. Inspect stones annually, removing any cracked pieces to protect elements from hot-spot burning.
03
Löyly Steam & Water Technique
Only pour clean tap water onto hot rocks once the sauna reaches operating temperature (75°C to 90°C). Use the wooden ladle to sprinkle water gently over the stone bed. Add a few drops of natural birch or eucalyptus sauna essence to the water for an authentic Scandinavian aromatic experience.
04
Base Foundation & Airflow Planning
Outdoor barrel and cube saunas must sit on a completely flat, level, free-draining foundation such as concrete slabs, reinforced timber decking, or concrete ground pads. Ensure the air intake vent beneath the heater and the exhaust vent near the ceiling remain unobstructed for clean convection.
05
Nordic Timber Care & Exterior Protection
Our cabins use kiln-dried Nordic spruce and Canadian red cedar. Leave internal wood bare to preserve natural fragrance and breathability. Treat the exterior timber every 12 to 18 months with a breathable, UV-resistant exterior wood preservative to withstand British rainfall and frost.
06
UK Operating Costs & Economy
Operating a home sauna is very cost-effective compared to commercial spa memberships. At typical UK electricity tariffs (~28p/kWh), a 30-minute infrared session costs approximately 35p to 50p. A full traditional sauna session with preheat costs around £1.40 to £1.80.
